Make That Move!
Hey friends—just wanted to take a moment to share another special highlight from my journey as an author.
I self-published my first book series on Amazon back in 2012. Now, it wasn’t the first story I’d ever written, but it was the first one that found measurable success. That book marked the beginning of a journey that would stretch over a decade.
Between 2012 and 2023, I wrote over 35 books. Many of them reached bestseller status on Amazon, and I’m forever grateful to have connected so deeply with my readers in the Urban Christian Fiction space. But despite the milestones, none of my books had ever received formal recognition outside of Amazon.
And truthfully? That was on me.
I either procrastinated or doubted myself. I had thousands of positive reviews, but still didn’t think my work was “award-worthy.” I let fear and uncertainty get in the way of stepping out.
Can you relate? Ever felt paralyzed by the unknown? I’d feel it every time I was about to release a new book, wondering if it would measure up to the last one, or if it would resonate with readers.
But over the years, as I grew deeper in my faith and came to truly believe Jeremiah 29:11—that God’s plans for me are good, hopeful, and filled with purpose—I began to surrender those fears to Him. I stopped trying to control every outcome and started trusting the process.
So here’s what I want to encourage you with: make that move. Don’t let fear keep you stuck. Trust the gifts God placed inside you. Surrender the outcome to Him—He knows the path you’re meant to take, and He’ll guide you into your purpose.
Now, I didn’t intend for this post to get so long (you know how that goes 😅), but I had to share what God has done.
November 2024 marked a milestone I’ll never forget.
After finally submitting my book to an international competition—the Readers’ Favorite Book Awards—I’m thrilled to announce that Married to the Devil has won the Gold Medal in Christian Fiction! Yes, it’s now officially an award-winning book—and to God be all the glory!
For those who may not be familiar with the Readers’ Favorite Awards, here’s a quick bit of context from their site:
The Readers’ Favorite International Book Award Contest receives thousands of entries from around the world—from debut authors to NYT bestsellers and even celebrities. It’s one of the largest, most respected book award platforms online and is endorsed by publishers like Random House, Simon & Schuster, and HarperCollins. With an A+ rating from the BBB, it’s earned a reputation for excellence and integrity.
Every year, nearly 300 authors and guests gather in Miami for the Awards Ceremony, with attendees traveling from as far as Australia, the UK, Brazil, and Singapore. Past keynote speakers have included names like Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky & Hutch), Eriq La Salle (E.R., Coming to America), and Dete Meserve (President of Wind Dancer Films, producers of Home Improvement and What Women Want).
To walk that stage, receive my medal, and be celebrated among family, friends, and fellow authors—it was beyond humbling. A dream come true.
